Autumn Fern Dinnerware Commission
The Story
This commissioned collection began with a single piece, a large mixing bowl gifted by a wonderful client, ultimately inspiring an entire custom dinnerware set.
Designed in collaboration, we started from the beginning, developing a glaze to match the original bowl. After more than 45 glaze tests, we arrived at a finish that felt true to the piece that started it all.
The final collection included a set of four monogrammed dinner plates, matching side plates, salad bowls, mugs, a large chip-and-dip bowl, and a monogrammed pitcher. These pieces now live beautifully on display as part of her table setting year-round.

These test samples document the variations in color, texture, movement, and finish that emerge through the firing process. Comparing multiple formulations allows for thoughtful refinement before committing to a final glaze, ensuring the finished work achieves the intended character while meeting both aesthetic and functional expectations.
